Paul and Ruth Flowers

Ruth and Paul Flowers saw an opportunity to give back after the son of their friends, Anna and Ben Stark, battled cancer for years. Nicknamed “Super Fritz,” Fritz Stark is now cancer-free and grateful for his care at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Super Fritz & Friends Fund was created in 2021, providing pediatric oncology patient assistance as well as funding a pediatric patient navigator. The resource specialist position strengthens and enhances the support the Cancer Center can provide to patients’ families navigating the emotional, practical, and financial struggles that come with a diagnosis. In 2022, the Flowers made a $5.5 million gift to further support the fund.

As we continue serving diverse communities and breaking ground in critical areas like cancer, neuroscience, and geriatrics, we are also preparing the next generation of health care leaders.

Our students, guided by passionate educators, are not just learning to practice medicine—they’re learning to change it. Your investment in scholarships, research, and training programs is transforming lives, not just for our students, but for the countless patients they’ll serve in the future.

Your contributions have empowered us to extend our reach, especially into underserved communities in Northern and Central California, ensuring that cutting-edge, personalized care is available to all. From clinical trials to telemedicine, we’re providing patients with state-of-the-art treatments that meet their unique needs.

As part of the UC Davis Health system, including the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing and the top-ranked UC Davis Medical Center, we will keep making medical breakthroughs that bring hope and healing to patients and their families.

Thank you for helping us build a future where the best in medicine is accessible to all.
